On September 8, 2013 The National Rifle Association – Institute for Legislative Action reported an update on the state of California Anti Gun and Anti Hunting bills scheduled to be heard on the Senate and Assembly floors.
The NRA reported the following about Assembly Bill 711:
Assembly Bill 711 would make California the first state in the nation to prohibit the use of ALL lead ammunition for hunting. Extensive research has shown that traditional lead ammunition does NOT pose a health hazard for hunters. Please communicate the following facts to your Senator as reasons to OPPOSE AB 711:
Even if one is not a hunter, recreational shooter or gun owner, those who enjoy nature by bird-watching, hiking or camping benefit from hunting excise tax dollars through the Pittman-Robertson Act. According to the California Department of Finance, AB 711 could cost California $34 MILLION in lost revenue and federal funding, not the $45,000 claimed by lead ammunition ban advocates. That is only the tip of the iceberg. The state Department of Finance figure does not include loss of jobs, reduction in taxes from decreasing hunting-related expenditures or the likely increase in cost to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife to hire more wardens to enforce the lead ammunition ban.

Yet again the politicians are writing anti gun bills and making legislative decisions that are not based on facts. They really like to ignore research, evidence, and statistics when it comes to gun laws and regulation. What are they thinking?
By going after hunters and the hunting sports these paper pushing politicians are destroying the ability for you and I to be self reliant. You don’t need to live in the country to understand the importance of hunting animals to feed your family.
Hunting is not just a sport, it is an invaluable skill that will save your life if there is some national crisis and the stores no longer have food on the shelves. When the defecation meets the oscillation, getting food will be on the top three of your “To Do List.” If you can trap and hunt animals, know how to skin them, and are able to prepare them for some good eatin’ over a fire you will be the hero in your house.
Please help us real men and women preserve our spot on the hierarchy of the food chain. Man was born to hunt and eat animals. Don’t let California take away our ability to protect ourselves and feed our families.
Take the time to voice your opposition to this bill and all the other anti gun bills. You can find contact info for your state Senator and Assemblymen here.

I came across this story and was so proud of this young lady. Alyssa Gutierrez was left home alone briefly one day when 3 armed burglars broke into her home. She tried to hide and avoid confrontation but the bad guys eventually saw her. When she was left with no choice she ran to get her mom’s pink rifle and confidently pointed the rifle at the thugs. That was enough to send these criminals a message. The burglars ran out of the house, jumped the fence, and were quickly apprehended by the police. Thank goodness this story had a happy ending and highlights how guns can be used for good.
Students that come to me for firearms training often wonder if they should bring their kids to the range. I tell them “YES!” Start educating your kids about firearms at an early age. We really underestimate how smart kids are when it comes to firearms.
If children are trained at a young age to respect a handgun, rifle, or shotgun, they are less likely to do something dangerous out of curiosity. Just think one day they will be teenagers. They have been exposed to violent video games, cop shows, and military themed action movies in the years when their minds are the most suggestible. They have been idolizing action starts and the Hollywood version of gun fights and tactics which are usually unrealistic. They go to their friend’s house one day and their buddy tries to sneak a little show and tell with daddy’s gun. If your child had been trained to respect guns early on they would know how to make sure the gun was unloaded, field strip it or leave it in a safe condition, then go tell an adult in the house.
The young girl in this particular story was lucky that she had been trained to use the Pink .22 Long Rifle only a few days before this home invasion took place. If she didn’t take such quick action she could have been badly hurt or worse.
Share this video with your kids and spouses. Leave your comments or questions here. I hope this post will inspire a serious discussion about starting to teach your children firearms safety fundamentals. Don’t leave your child’s safety to chance. You won’t always be there to protect them.

If the economy collapses or we get hit by a solar flare and the power grid goes down you might have to bug out or shelter in place. The sheeple that never prepare for anything will turn into zombies very quickly looking for food and water. If the zombie apocalypse happens in our lifetime I know you will be excited but….. do you know who you can count on to have your back and fight off the zombies while you try to rebuild society?
Take a lesson from the hit TV show The Walking Dead. You can’t fight zombies all by yourself so get a group of people you trust with different survival skills and start building your survival team. If you are watching your perimeter on a security detail can you do it for 24 hours straight and hunt for food, and treat wounds, and maintain a fire? NO WAY! You need to have several people to help out in shifts and do a good job in all your areas of survival need.
Your team should include experts in the following areas immediately: medicine, weapons and security, farming, engineering, hunting, canning or preserving foods. It’s cool if your team members have expertise in several different areas but you need to know who they are ahead of time.
Eventually you might take in weaklings that have no other skill than to be good zombie food. Hey, everyone has a purpose in life they need to fulfill. Just decide who you will invite to be part of your inner circle survival team and start developing communication and action plan ASAP!

Never leaving your child alone in a vehicle may seem like common sense but it happens. Sheeple often forget to take kids out of the car with them to run errands because they simply get too busy or don’t want to go through the trouble for a quick trip to the bank or market. In January of 2002 Kaitlin’s Law made it illegal to leave your kids unattended in a vehicle. Too often children will die because of hyperthermia, the car turns into an oven especially during the hot months of the year and kids are really vulnerable to their bodies overheating.
Why did we need a law making this kind of thing illegal? Because it happens more often than you think. My friends in the Law Enforcement Community have some words of wisdom for you to make sure a child never suffers the tragic death by being left in a car because of an irresponsible parent. Read their comments below.
“For years, August has been designated as Purple Ribbon Month to remind parents and caregivers about the dangers of leaving children in vehicles. Kaitlyn’s Law, effective January 2002, made it illegal to leave a child under 7 unattended inside a motor vehicle. Purple ribbons serve as a reminder to never leave your child unattended in a vehicle, not even for a minute, not even a second!
During the summer months, temperatures spike and children are left in vehicles that can reach up to 120 degrees even on a moderately cool day. A child’s body heats up 3-5 times faster than an adult’s body and can rise to 106 degrees within 10-15 minutes of being left in a hot vehicle. Since February of this year, 24 deaths have been reported in the U.S. due to hyperthermia.
Law enforcement officials recommend these prevention tips:
• If you see a child unattended in a vehicle, call 911.
• Make “look before you leave” a routine and check the back seat every time you get out of the vehicle. Don’t overlook sleeping babies.
• Make arrangements for your day care provider to call within 30 minutes if your child has NOT been dropped off.
• Always lock your vehicle and make sure children do not have access to keys. If a child is missing, always check the pool first and then the vehicle, including the trunk.
• Never let children play inside the vehicle.”
Don’t let your kids be the victims of sheeple syndrome. Your child’s life is more important than getting a few more errands done in a day.

This is a sad story about a woman in New Jersey who was home with her young kids when she was viciously attacked by a man who burst into her home and began giving her a serious beating. This all happened in front of her daughter who was watching TV on the couch. Things ended with the guy pushing her down the stairs to the basement.
I have to warn you this video is very graphic but watching it will teach you a valuable lesson.
When she was interviewed the woman said she chose to take the beating and let the guy do whatever he wanted so he would not go after her kids. That is NOT the choice I would have made. It is obvious she didn’t have any firearms or self defense training. Now she and her kids are traumatized. This incident will affect her, her kids, and her husband for the rest of their lives. It will have consequences for their marriage that affect the intimacy of the relationship all the way to the decisions they make about parenting their children.
There are several things that could have happened to prevent this woman and her family from being victims that day.
1. They should have had an alarm system that was on and armed while they were in the home. The news reports about this story show an ADT truck in the driveway after the incident when it was already too late. If the alarm company sign didn’t stop the bad guy the sound of the alarm going off would probably have scared him away.
2. They should have had some self defense training. Learning how to fight helps instill the mindset that you have a duty to protect yourself and react if someone attacks you. This guy was bigger, stronger, and more determined than this woman. She did what she knew how to do which was nothing. She defaulted to a victim mentality because that is how she was wired. I have heard countless stories of people who fought back against an assault and the bad guy gave up because their “victim” was too much trouble. See bad guys are lazy, they don’t like to work too hard and this woman made home invaders job real easy.
3. They should have invested in a firearm and some gun training classes. I am not a cop but I believe the investigators and a jury would have found this woman justified in shooting this man in self defense. There is now way she could out muscle him and it is apparent that he was there for more than just taking her television.
I wish this woman well as she and her family recover from this incident. I hope they look carefully at their strategies for personal protection now and make sure this never happens again. Let this story be a lesson for you to prepare now so you never become a victim of a violent attack like this one.
I teach people proven strategies on how to prevent being victimized by incidents like this in my signature “Refuse To Be A Victim” crime prevention workshops. Click here for more information about those events.

When you are out on the range your primary concern should be staying safe, NOT making a pretty design on your target. Part of your range safety ritual MUST be wearing protective gear like ear protection.
Common sense would tell you that a gun shot would be pretty loud right? But, if you haven’t heard a gunshot before you don’t know how loud it is or understand the potential for hearing damage over time. Even if you were to work around heavy machinery you’d have to wear hearing protection to preserve your hearing over the long run.
Electronic ear protection is the only type I recommend. I use 3M Peltor Tactical Sport Hearing Protection. You hearing protection should cancel the loud noises that could damage your hearing like the sound of the gun going off with each trigger pull, AND amplify sounds you need to hear like important range commands.
Beginners who are unprepared for the range wear those cheap foamy ear plugs that muffle every sound. Those might be ok if your are a college student trying to study at the library. They are even ok if you are trying to catch some ZZZs on a plane. The cheap ear pro is better than having nothing but it is not adequate for you or my students. Now you know better.
ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS protect your ears out on the range.
Look up Peltor Tactical Sport Hearing Protection and you will find several places to buy them online or visit your local gun shop. This is a popular model that retails for around $150.oo but you could find them closer to $100.00. They are comfortable, durable, and run on AA batteries. You could spend more money and get a fancier model but if all you need is some good quality hearing protection for the range then these are the ones I highly recommend.
Let me know what you think about these Peltors.

When you go for your everyday shopping needs do you ever treat it like an adventure to find as many emergency survival supplies as you can? I DO!
One of my favorite survival stores is COSTCO! I don’t ONLY go there for the free samples. The free samples are a really nice Bonus!
When I am at Costco or any other store I comb the aisles looking through a prepper’s eyes and see the items on the shelves in a different light. I bet the thousands of people that walked by this box of freeze dried meals didn’t even notice them. They had no idea if they picked up this one box of food they could have extended their family’s life for a few more days.
Take a look at your survival supplies and make sure you have at least 7 days worth of food immediately. For your long term survival needs plan on storing at least 6 months to a year’s worth of food for your household.
Next time you are at the grocery store pick up a few extra items for your food supply and you will be well stocked before you can say BACON BITS.
P.S. Don’t forget the crumbled bacon because everything tastes better with bacon!

Some people believe birthdays are a great time to reflect on what you have accomplished and celebrate your life. I say they are just another excuse to get out to the shooting range and have some fun.
I don’t throw big parties or soirees for my birthday because that is not important to me, but it is nice to see the people closest to me go a little out of there way to do something special on my birthday. My man Jorge hit the jackpot and gave me one of the best gifts in the world. He took me on a little trip down memory lane. Check out the graphic he created celebrating my 35th birthday and our relationship.
From the salsa floors to the shooting range we have done everything together. Oh yes I do have a sentimental side and I remember the exact moment when we were dancing in this picture. I cherish those early days. I also cherish the days we spend now at the firing range doing our tactical training, getting dirty outdoors, and working two man team drills! Our survival and tactical training has made our relationship stronger. I know he has my back, and he knows he can count on me to stand beside him if someone threatens our family.
Men if you are an avid shooter convince your ladies to go to the range with you. Ladies, if you still haven’t experienced a day at the range learning firearms safety and shooting fundamentals you must get some training ASAP!
If you would like to find out more about my upcoming Firearms training courses click here!
Whatever you do, get some good quality firearms education and keep up your training on a regular basis. It makes a great Birthday present. Trust me I know!

No warrior was ever created without a master. A teacher who showed them the ropes and helped them step into their manhood, or womanhood.
As part of my morning spiritual ritual I like to reflect on what my masters have taught me while I put on some black face paint, wrap a bandana around my forehead, sharpen my knives, and meditate.
Here is a quote from General James Mattis, USMC.
These are words to live by for sure. As a warrior and strong individual who is preparing to survive dangerous situations you must have the ability to react and put down a threat that could come at you at any given moment. You can respect people and their individuality but you don’t have to be friends with everyone.
I assume everyone is a potential criminal. From the old man crossing the street with a cane to the professional looking woman wearing a business suit. You never know who or what might pose a threat to your family. Don’t get sucked in by social norms that dictate you have to say “Hello, how are you?” to every Tom, Dick, and Susie. Criminals will try to catch you off guard with small talk and get close enough to attack you.
Don’t let yourself get caught off guard by being the NICE guy or gal. Remember what General James Mattis said, “Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everybody you meet.”

My students ask me where I get my survival gear all the time. I tell them that Bass Pro Shops are definitely at the top of my list.

Now I get to by myself big girl presents like gun safes, knives, camping gear, boats, ATVs, camo patterned clothing, and more.
They have over 50 locations across the United States & Canada. If you don’t have a Bass Pro Shop near you, check out their amazing inventory at http://www.basspro.com.
